Short term programs
Our Preparatory Program is designed for dancers ages 9+ that have a serious desire to continue their dance through college or prepare them for a career in dance. With ballet as a technical base, students will accelerate their proficiency in dance skills including technique, patterning, choreography improvisation, presentation and collaboration. Class Descriptions and Requirements
Ballet- Ballet requires extreme strength and flexibility and is a base for many other dance forms. At Bainbridge Ballet, we offer Pre-Ballet classes to ages 3-7, then begin technical training in a combination of Cecchetti and Vaganova ballet styles.
Pre-Ballet- Teaches basic movement and dance concepts such as spatial awareness, rhythm and gross motor skills as well as classroom structure, and focus.
Ballet/Tap- A wonderful combination class of tap and pre-ballet for those children who love both! Students learn physical coordination, rhythm, mental concentration, the basic disciplines of dance with a series of fun and exciting games and movements.
Pointe- Teaches the proper alignment and specialized techniques necessary to perform safely and properly en pointe. In order to begin pointe, students must pass a strength test with their instructor. Find out more here.
Jazz- Originating in the late 19th century from African American community and parallel to the jazz music movement, jazz is now one of the most popular dance styles in the world. Classical jazz steps and positions will be taught with contemporary music.
Lyrical- A meld of classical jazz, ballet with other influences for the more advanced dancer. Basic knowledge of jazz movements and at least 1 year of ballet experience is required.
Contemporary- Contemporary can take many shapes and forms.
Modern- Based on the same principles as ballet, modern departs in the shaping of positions using parallel. The movements imitate the rhythms and motions in nature. A mixture of styles will be taught with an emphasis on alignment.
Tap- Tap rose in the 19th century as a dance form combining Africa tribal dance, English clogging and Irish jigs, among other styles. Students will learn a mix of Broadway tap (stylized for theater) and rhythm tap (the art form of tap dancing).
Hip Hop- Combines body isolations with locking and popping techniques. Students will learn basic movements and then work on creating combos in their unique individual style. This is a fun and high-energy dance style.
Acro- Tumbling skills, handstands, and headstands done on 30 ft. panel mats. Correct technique in doing somersaults, aerials, and walkovers.
Pre-Ballet 3- Must be 3yrs old by September 1
Pre-Ballet 4-5 and Ballet/Tap 4-5- Must be 4yrs old by September 1
Pre-Ballet 5-6, Ballet/Tap 5-6, and Tap/Jazz 5-6- Must be 5yrs old by September 1
Pre-Ballet 6-7 and Tap/Jazz 6-7- Must be 6yrs old by September 1
Ballet/Tap/Jazz/Hip Hop A1- Must be 7yrs old by September 1
Ballet/Tap/Jazz/Hip Hop A2- Must have completed a year of the A1 level of the class
Ballet/Tap/Jazz A3- Must have completed a year of the A2 level of the class
Lyrical A3- Must have completed a year of Ballet A3 or Teen Ballet
Ballet A3/B- Must have completed a year of, or be currently enrolled in, Ballet A3
Ballet B1- Must have completed at least 1 year of Ballet A3/B, or by instructor approval
Ballet B2- Must have completed at least 1 year of Ballet B1 and have instructor approval
Ballet B/C- Must have completed Ballet B1 or higher, or by instructor approval
Ballet C- Must have completed at least 1 year of Ballet B2 and have instructor approval
Pointe A- Must be at least 12yrs old, be enrolled in Ballet B1 and have passed pointe test given by instructor. Must be enrolled in at least two ballet technique classes
Pointe B- Must have had at least 1 year of Pointe A and have instructor approval. Must be enrolled in at least two ballet technique classes
Pointe C- Must have had at least 1 year of Pointe B and have instructor approval. Must be enrolled in at least two ballet technique classes
Variations- A class for learning choreography from classic ballets. Must be in at least Ballet B1 or higher. May be taken en pointe or on flat
Creative Dance- A modern-based class for ages 8-10
Modern A3- Ballet/Jazz A2 recommended before taking
Modern B- Must be in Ballet B1 or higher
Lyrical/Jazz B1- Must have completed a year of the A3 level of the class and either have instructor approval or be enrolled in Ballet B1
Lyrical/Jazz B2- Must have completed a year of the B1 level of the class and have instructor approval. Must be enrolled in Ballet B2 or higher
Jumps & Turns- A class to improve technique in turning and jumping in ballet and jazz styles. Must be in Ballet B1 or higher
Contemporary- Must complete a year of Lyrical B2 and have instructor approval. Must be enrolled in Ballet B2 or higher
Jazz Rep- Must have completed a year of Jazz B2 and have instructor approval. Must be enrolled in Ballet B2 or higher and a jazz or lyrical class
Hip Hop B/C and Tap B/C- By instructor approval
Boy’s Hip Hop B1- Several years of hip hop recommended, ages 10-13
Acro 7-10- An acrobatics class for ages 7-10
Acro 11-13- An acrobatics class for ages 11-13
Acro 14+- An acrobatics class for ages 14 and up
Stretch- A class to help stretch and condition muscles needed for dance. Appropriate for ages 10+
Teen Ballet/Hip Hop/Lyrical- Beginning level classes geared towards those 11+ who have not had previous training
Adult Ballet/Tap/Jazz/Modern- A multi-level class for adults who want to learn or continue their dance training
