Sara Cramer, Director and Owner, Ballet
Sara began dancing at the age of 5 and has studied classical ballet with Doreen Gilday (American Ballet Theater), Barbara Remington (NYC Ballet), Robert Joffrey (Joffrey Ballet), and Pacific Northwest Ballet, among others. She has been teaching on Bainbridge since 1989, and has previously taught at Princeton Ballet, Belle Mead Ballet, and River Ballet Company. She has performed and stages numerous productions such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and various versions of The Nutcracker.
Maureen MacNeill, Ballet
A Massachusetts Native, Maureen began her dance training at Boston Ballet at age 5. She studied with Violette Verdy, Patricia McBride, and Jaques Cesbron at Indiana University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in ballet. She performed with Baltimore Opera Company, Washington Opera Company, and Central City Opera and taught and choreographed for 15 years at Arabesque Dance Studio in Columbia, Maryland where she directed the ballet program. She has choreographed numerous ballets such as Cinderella, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, as well as an annual production of the Nutcracker.
Rebecca Smith, Contemporary/Lyrical/Childrens
Becca is a Seattle-based dancer, performer, and choreographer. She received her technical training in ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, and afro-latin with Ewajo Dance Center, Bainbridge Ballet, and the UW dance program. She has worked with many different choreographers and has performed in new works for choreographers such as Cheryl Delostrinos, Imana Gunawan, Veronica Lee-Baik and many more. Becca has had her own choreographic work produced at LAUNCH, LAUNCH 2.0, LAUNCH 3.0, Choreographer's Showcases at The Studios, as well as Au Collective's Gold&Skin 2015 and ReSET in October 2016 at 12th Ave Arts. She has also premiered Settlers, a film, at Strictly Seattle 2015 and is a member of Au Collective. Rebecca has an immense passion for teaching and is thrilled to be able to share her love for dance with others.
Maggie Hotchkiss, Jazz/Modern
Born in Bangkok, Thailand and adopted while still a toddler, Margaret’s love of dance began on Bainbridge Island, WA when she was two years old. Now an artist, teacher, and performer, her work is informed by the eternal balance between joy and sorrow, and her discovery of identity as an immigrant adoptee. She is grateful for opportunities to study dance at California State University, Long Beach; The San Francisco Conservatory of Dance; American Dance Festival, New York; and Strictly Seattle which have all enriched her experience. A graduate of Cornish College of the Arts (B.F.A. Dance, 2012), she has performed work by Wade Madsen, Alicia Mullikin, Noelle Price, Christian K. Burns, Alex Ketley, Elia Mrak, and most recently Mary Tisa in Tint Dance Festival. She has also performed with Au Collective as a guest artist. Margaret currently teaches at Bainbridge Ballet, Cornish Preparatory Dance, and Emerald City Dance Complex. She is inspired by her friends, family, and students and is a lover of little birds, elephants, and cats.
Tess Keesling, Modern/Acro/Childrens
Tess was born and raised in Waterford, MI where she grew up dancing at a small competitive studio. Tess recently graduated from Oakland University with a BFA in Dance and is a fresh Seattle transplant. She has experience teaching an array of dance styles (ranging from ballet to disco) to movers ages two to eighty-two. As a performer and choreographer her work has been presented in various performances/festivals internationally and across the U.S. In recent years Tess has worked with some powerful female dance artists such as Loni Landon, Alice Gosti, Stephanie Martinez, Kendra Portier, and Laurie Eisenhower. Tess believes making art and spreading kindness are simple daily practices, available to all people, that can and should be intertwined.
Justin Symes, Hip Hop
Justin has loved hip hop since he was 13 years old and he began teaching himself. In 2008, he started studying with the Galletta School of Dance. Since then, Justin has come on staff and has choreographed for both the Galletta School of Dance as well as for Kingston High School's musical productions. Most of his training is in hip hop, jazz and contemporary but he has also studied ballet, modern, tap, and partnering techniques.
Scott Breitbarth, Tap
Scott is excited to join the staff at Bainbridge Ballet! Growing up in Kitsap, Scott trained at Bainbridge Dance Center for ten years and choreographed several student productions at KCMT before pursuing a degree at the USC film school along with a dance minor from Kaufmann. He currently works as an editor-for-hire and moonlights as a budding filmmaker.
